Romelu Lukaka scores against Huddersfield but could he play against the big boys?

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku played against Huddersfield Town and it looks like he used his brute strength to score against them.

Huddersfield could not just stop him. But despite his good performance on Saturday, some are still questioning his talent as he has only been able to score against teams that are in the bottom half.

Manchester United transfer him from Everton for £75 million but it looks like he still has no big moments until now.

While he also was able to muster four shots on target against big teams but it is not the goals that are lacking but performances.

Romelu Lukaku

So far, Lukaku has not made devastating counter attacks against bigger teams that prevented them from challenging Manchester City for the title.

It can be seen that he has the confidence to do so and he has the attributes of a great player, but he still does not have the killer instinct like what Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane possess.

If Lukaku cannot make the goals that matter, he may not be able to have fans remember him in ten years’ time.

For now, fans can celebrate the two goals he made against Huddersfield.

Antonio Conte doubts Chelsea will have advantage over Barcelona

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte says Chelsea’s Friday night fixture will not have an advantage in the Champions League game because they will also be playing against tough competitors between the two legs against Barcelona.

Conte will play against Manchester United on February 25 and will be followed by a game against Manchester City on March 4.

“I think to play of Friday is good for us,” Conte said.

“Three days to try and prepare the game against Barcelona.

“At the same time, between these fames, we have two strong games in the league: Manchester United and Manchester City, both away.

“If we were lucky to play on Friday, we were very unlucky to have this schedule between the two Barcelona games.

“This schedule is not very interesting for us. Maybe it is for someone else. I hope for no replay (against Hull). We had one against Norwich, but I hope to try and win this game and go through without a replay.”

Sanchez arrival at Man Utd blame for Pogba’s slump form

Paul Pogba

Former Manchester United Paul Ince believes that the arrival of Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford is responsible for Paul Pogba’s loss of form.

Results have not yielded up since Sanchez came and United failing to defeat in two of their last three Premier League outings.

“Since Sanchez joined the club, Pogba’s confidence and mood seem to have gone in the opposite direction to earlier in the season,” the former England midfielder wrote for Paddy Power.

“He looks like a totally different player.

“It’s probably due to the fact that, pre-Sanchez, he was the main man. He was the kingpin and the one everyone was talking about.

“But the arrival of Sanchez has taken the shine off him. What I would say is, at United, you’re all main men. You should all perform like that, too.

“Looking at the Newcastle game, you could see from his body language that he’s fed up. Whatever it is, it’s a problem that needs addressing.”

Sadio Mane says he is back on track after his roller-coaster campaign

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane admits that he has suffered a roller-coaster campaign after being punished in a one-on-one clash with goalkeeper Ederson in their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City in September.

After his three-match suspension, Mane received a hamstring injury and looked short of confidence for several weeks.

When asked whether his red card affected him, “Yeah, it was not my wish but it happened.”

“It was tough on me but it is part of football and can happen. I never doubted how I could help the team and I never stopped working hard every day in training.

“I always tried to remain balanced, even when it was not working, because it is my job and I have to do it.

“I don’t know how to describe it but it can happen to every single player and in my mind I was relaxed that it will change.”

But Butland denied the claims that he wants to move to Liverpool and that he did not ask his club if he could leave them so that he can transfer to Liverpool.

“Before this spread any further, I haven’t told the club I want to leave, I’m focused on doing everything I can to keep the club in this division,” Butland wrote on his Twitter account.

Liverpool are bound to be linked with numerous players as clubs prepare for the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp refused to accept Liverpool’s place in the quarter-finals

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp refused to accept that Liverpool have one foot in Champions League quarter finals despite their great win against FC Porto 5-0.

Liverpool dominated their game against FC Porto in Portugal and effectively killed a possible tie ahead of their game with them again at Anfield on March 6.

Klopp will be able to rest some of his key players four days before an important game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Klopp also insisted that they will not go easy on Porto when asked if the last 16 tie was over/

“No, of course not. Why should I think that.”

“We came here to create the basis for the second game at Anfield, no more no less.

“I’ve said many times I’m too long in the business to think anything is sorted before the final whistle is done.

“We owe our supporters at Anfield a 100% performance and that’s what we want to deliver. That’s all.”

Mauricio Pochettino hailed Tottenham after 2-2 draw with Juventus

Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino commended his side after Tottenham Hotspur overcame a nightmare start with Juventus and ended with a 2-2 draw in last night’s Champions League.

“A fantastic game,” said Pochettino.

“We were sloppy and conceded two goals in nine minutes, but the character we showed was fantastic. I want to congratulate the players — 2-0 down in Turin to a team so difficult to break down. We deserved a victory more than a draw.”

“We are more mature now. In the last few weeks, the team are growing and have stepped up. It’s a good example of the capacity we have. The team was amazing in how they reacted.

“You need some luck always in football. The tie is open, Juventus are a massive team. We have the hope we can win [the second leg] in Wembley.”

Harry Kane

Harry Kane scored the goal which helped him to create more results.

“We could have [capitulated], away from home in the Champions League. It showed character,” Kane said.

“It was an excellent performance after that and we take two away goals to Wembley. Great result.

“I should have scored the header, but you have to be ready for the next one and I finished it off.”

Adding to their draw, Tottenham manager David Pleat added that Juventus paid a price for becoming over confident.

“Juventus were complacent in the first half after going two goals up. It was probably the worst thing that happened to them, because they sat a little bit and Tottenham had no option but to push on. As the game developed they made their ascendancy count,” Pleat said.

“Juventus were a little disappointing when you consider their results over the past three months in Italy, it is quite incredible. They faded in the second half in Cardiff when they played Real Madrid in the final last year, they’ve got some ageing players in the squad and were missing some players. They may well have players back maybe, maybe Paulo Dybala, the clever midfielder, will be back for the second game. And they’ve had a good look at Tottenham now, so they know what they are up against, this will be a titanic battle.”

Chelsea made three points from their game against West Brom with the help of Hazard and Victor Moses. The victory also eased pressure on Conte who had a series of unfortunate losses against Watford and Bournemouth.

“We must be pleased for Giroud’s performance. It was the first time he has played from the start for us.”

“Giroud is coming back from a muscular problem so it’s important he goes into our idea of football, into the right position. The first goal was a clear example of our idea.”

Hazard was still the man of the match as he was able to score in the 25th minute from Giroud’s pass and scored again in the 71st minute when he capitalized on a ball from Morata before curling it past the goalkeeper.
