West Ham remain in the relegation zone after David Moyes lost his first game as manager at West Ham against Watford, 2-0.
“I think most people would have expected something like that because that’s the way it’s been,” Moyes said.
“The better team won the game, I won’t say different, but we had chances to change the outcome of the game.”
Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes made great saves and denied Marko Arnautovic in making an equaliser in the first half.
While it was West Ham who had the game’s three big chances to score with Cheikhou Kouyate spurned two clear-cut openings but Watford did a good job in denying those chances.
West Ham fans were also not happy about the appointment of Moyes and they were chanting on Sunday “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” at the players and choruses of “sack the board” which is directed to those in charge of the club.
“I said to the players, it’s tough to play when the crowd is like that,” Moyes said. The West Ham fans and the club need to unity right now instead of hate as they will need more time to improve and prepare for their game at Leicester.
