Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Erik Lamela will not be able to make a comeback for Tottenham against West Ham in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match.
The Argentina winger has not played since their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool due to a persistent hip problem.
Most were hoping that the 25-year-old would return in this week’s match as he has also returned in training. However, Pochettino says that he is uncertain when Lamela will be ready.
“No, Erik is not on the list,” Pochettino said during a news conference. “He’s doing well but still he’s not available.
“After one year [out], I cannot say tomorrow, one week or one month. It depends on his evolution.”
When asked if midfielder Mousa Dembele will join them in their match against the Hammers having missed the last month games because of an ankle injury, he said: “Yeah, he’s doing well,” Pochettino said of the Belgium international. “I need to decide tomorrow [Wednesday].
“It’s true different players, when they are injured, you have to assess step by step. But it’s good.”
