20-year-old Youri Tielemans had the chance to join Arsenal during the summer transfer window but had to decline the offer as he admits he may not get many first-team chances.
The young midfielder is regarded as one of the finest midfielder in Europe with his impressive game against Manchester United for Anderlecht in the Europa League last year just showed his capabilities.
He was also made player of the year in Belgium last season and has made a name for himself under Roberto Martinez.
While he received offers from Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, he instead opted to join Ligue 1 Monaco for £22 million and now has explained why he didn’t join Arsenal when he was given a bid.
“I knew not much was going to change with Arsenal’s squad,” Tielemans said.
“Their management wanted to keep the same group of players together in order to finish high in the Premier League.
“I had to be honest with myself and take a look at the midfielders Arsenal have got. They are top-class players.
“I knew that I would not get many first-team chances with them, so I didn’t give any more thought to joining them.
“I never said no to any club. But I made it clear where I wanted to go,” Tielemans concluded.
