Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will wear a cast against Saints this weekend after fracturing a finger bone while he was stopping a heated exchange between Jamaal Lascelles and Mo Diame.
The incident happened after defender Jamaal Lascelles accused Diame of being “lazy.”
“I’m not going to comment anything about that. It is something that happens with every English team,” forward Ayoze Perez said after being asked about the Diame-Lascelles incident.
“We have a great dressing room, a great spirit and that is nothing important. We are not going to comment on that.”
The 25-year-old Shelvey has finished twice on the losing side at St Mary’s.
Lascelles recently signed a new contract with Newcastle that will end in 2023 while Mo Diame is in his second season with Newcastle.
