Newcastle United Rafa Benitez admits that they have made some mistakes with their game against Brighton FC and acknowledges that he is expecting for their fans not to overreact to their loss.
The defeat resulted in Brighton’s place to slide down in the Premier League table. After a week of being in top four, now United seats in ninth place and they still have a tough game against Liverpool next weekend.
“Our fans are very clever.
“They know we were talking about three wins in a row, but they also see that our team is a team that has to work very hard and do everything right to make sure they have chances to take points.
“Today, we made some mistakes and paid for that.
“We didn’t take our chances, and that is a key factor in the games in the Premier League.
“The level of the teams is higher, but in these games, when you are playing against a team that is more or less at your level, it is important to take something. I think we deserved to pick up at least one point, but we didn’t do it.
“We didn’t manage the final 20 minutes in the way I was expecting, and that is something we have to improve.”
Benitez also admits that his squad needs to just work harder and that he believes they can bounce back after their defeat against Brighton.
“We know we have to depend on our team work to have chances to get points.
“We have to be strong in defence, and we have to play well to have chances on the counter-attack, or move the ball well like we did in the second half.
“There is not a massive difference between a lot of the teams in this league, and these small margins are what we have to use to our benefit in these kinds of games.”
