Tuesday night became a crucial night for Sunderland and their manager Simon Grayson.
Despite their last night’s draw with Bolton at 3-3, Grayson was sacked just minutes after the final whistle finished the game.
The Mackems acknowledged their decision due to Sunderland not winning a league game at home for 11 months, equaling the English record of 19 home matches without a victory.
Sunderland AFC has released a statement regarding their ex-manager Simon Grayson and thanks Grayson and his staff for their efforts.
“Simon and his team have worked tirelessly to achieve the best for the football club during their time here.
“While we hoped that Simon’s experience in the Football League would help us to a successful season, results have not been good enough for a club of this stature.
“In order for us to improve upon our current position we believe a fundamental change is necessary.”
