Former Reds centre-back Stephane Henchoz believes that it is unlikely for Liverpool no win the title and even finish top-four.
Henchoz believes that Liverpool’s poor defence leaves them with “absolutely no chance” of challenging the Premier League title.
The former Liverpool centre-back was part of a successful team build upon a strong defensive set up made by Gerard Houllier who won the UEFA Cup, League Cup and FA Cup in 2001.
The former Switzerland international thinks that Jurgen Klopp needs to improve the back if they even want to belong at the top four again this season.
“It was a big problem last season and everybody was hoping they could solve the problem,” Houllier said.
“I think they definitely should buy somebody. At least one or two centre-backs, they tried [Virgil] Van Dijk, but they couldn’t make it happen.
“I don’t know. It seems that it is always the same mistakes, set pieces, they are very weak, very poor.
“The way it is at the moment, they have absolutely no chance of competing for the title.
“They would be more than happy to finish in the top four, but if they carry on the way they are conceding goals, I can’t see them finishing in the top four, unfortunately.”
