Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has brought three new faces into his team squad this summer and will be creating new changes before the start of the Premier League on August 12.
As there are only two remaining friendly games in Germany, some players are still hoping that they can prove themselves into their plans.
“I think at this time of the year there are a few vagaries in form,” Hughes said.
“Some are up to speed quicker than others. You get that at this time of the year. Hopefully, we will get everyone up to speed and the guys who are best suited to go up against Everton away will be the ones who get picked.”
When asked about how he feels about this time, the manager said, “We’re pleased with this period.”
“Once we get through the St Pauli game then almost everyone who is in and around the squad either training or playing will be up to speed.
“I think you saw at Bolton that fitness wise we look in good shape. Now it’s about putting meat on the bone in terms of detail in the game and a little bit more sharpness.
“It’s been a little bit more about minutes and getting general fitness. Now it’s about sharpening everyone up heading into the Everton game.
“Some of the guys who played at Bolton will be involved because we’re still trying to get 90 minutes into almost everybody if we can. Then Leipzig becomes more focused on the likelihood of the team going into Everton. It’s another chance to get time into some of the guys.”
