Lucas Moura introduced himself at Tottenham in style

Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura had to wait for his debut at Tottenham after signing in January but he did announce himself to English football in some style against Rochdale.

Fans are happy with Moura and even commenting that the attacker stole the show for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Even during the first half. Moura stood out with his pace and trickery. The second half was excellent though as they were able to keep the score 1-1.

Moura was replaced by Delle Alli but showed more than enough in the 65 minutes he was on the pitch.

Fans were impressed and showed their love to Moura on Twitter.

Tottenham could sell Harry Kane if the star wants it

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said he would only consider selling Harry Kane if he decided to leave.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane enjoyed a great 2017 as he was able to eclipse Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals with 37 goals in a calendar year. He was also able to outscore Barcelona star Lionel Messi for club and country over the one year period.

Because of his success, he was able to attract the attention of LaLiga Champions Real Madrid who want to make a move for the England international at the end of the season.

Tottenham have no intention of selling Kane but may reconsider if the 24-year-old wants to the Santiago Bernabeu. Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have already transferred to Madrid and Kane may follow if he wants it.

“As Tottenham coach I would say that if Madrid come in with a bid, we don’t want to sell because he will stay here and they will have to understand that,” Pochettino said.

“If the player asks you to leave, as happened with Modric and Bale… We’ll see what happens. Today, that has not happened.

“I hope that Harry Kane can be here for many years and provide many goals, wins and a title. That is what we want.”

Kane is still the leading scorer in the Premier League this season with 18 goals.

Mauricio Pochettino not concerned over Spurs poor away record

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur have lost at the home of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Mauricio Pochettino insists that he is not concerned over his side’s poor away record against the big six Premier League clubs.

Tottenham suffered a 4-1 defeat against City after also losing at Old Trafford and the Emirates.

Pochettino has claimed just one win from 18 matches against City after taking over in north London three years ago.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino refused to be concerned over his side’s big-game record.

“I think we play 19 teams in the Premier League, no? You see me concerned? Not really, no. It’s about how you finish in the league and position in the table,” he said. “Last season we were above Manchester City in the table. This season we are below. Maybe we need to improve our results not only away from home but at home.

“The expectation was massive during the season, yes we struggled maybe with different competitions but in the Champions League, we are doing fantastic. In the Premier League, we are not in the position we wanted but we are fighting for the top four.”

“Look, I don’t want to say anything today. I don’t want to find an excuse,” he said.

“That is football, today the reality was 4-1, they won, they were better and I think they are doing fantastic.

“Of course in football one team can win the Premier and if you are second, third, fourth and going to play the Champions League, it doesn’t matter if you are one point or 20 points away. At the end, it’s about the place in the table.”

Can Tottenham beat Manchester City on Saturday?

Manchester City vs Tottenham

Manchester City are very strong this season and there is no doubt that any club who would face them will really have a hard game.

Man City have already won a record of 15 consecutive Premier League and are yet to lose this season.

With the game coming up against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, could they have the chance to spoil their momentum?

Tottenham will travel to the Etihad Stadium on December 16 and there may be some chance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to finally defeat Pep Guardiola’s team.

While Guardiola boasts three out of the best six winning streaks in European football history with his side gaining 15, Barcelona with 16, and Bayern Munich with 19, but this does not scare Pochettino.

Pochettino insists that he is “excited” by the challenge.

Manchester City vs Tottenham will begin at 5:30 PM on Saturday, December 16 at the Etihad Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur manager says ‘Champions League has distracted us’

Mauricio Pochettino

Now that Tottenham Hotspur have a short break from European competition, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his team became distracted by their European campaign.

Although Spurs topped their Champions League group ahead of Real Madrid, they did not do well in the Premier League and had picked up just two points in their previous four games.

“We spent a lot of energy in the Champions League and it was so tough to mix between that competition and the Premier League,” he said after Saturday’s facile win, which saw Spurs close the gap on the top four to just one point.

“Last season when we were out of the Champions League we were able to focus on the Premier League, but this season the team wanted to show that we were strong in Europe, too. Maybe we were distracted about that.”

While Tottenham are already on the top, they could still find themselves with a tough draw against Bayern Munich or Juventus, who both finished as runners-up in their groups.

“I prefer to play against a team that will motivate everyone rather than a team everybody says you should beat easily. That is when it gets complicated. We would love to play against a big team.”

Danny Rose insists there is no growing rift with Pochettino

Danny Rose

Danny Rose tried to force his way out of Tottenham Hotspur and made a controversial interview criticising Spur’s policy and wage structure. This led to many to believe that Mauricio Pochettino and he are at odds.

While there is still a possibility that Rose could still move to Manchester United in 2018, but there are no indications yet about the transfer.

Rose was left out of the 18-man squad for the north London derby, a decision which Rose admitted left him “fuming”.

But during their game against APOEL in the Champions League, Rose played another 70 minutes and said that there is no issue between him and Pochettino.

“This is getting silly now,” Rose insisted. “The manager said it was best I came off, and I didn’t want to come off. That was it.

“I’ve seen already that people are saying we exchanged words. There is no issue between me and the manager. There has never been an issue. And people trying to put stuff in the media is not welcomed.”

Rose pointed out that Pochettino helped him improved and becoming one of the best left-backs in Europe over the last few years.

“For the last three-and-a-half years to four years, the manager has been my biggest fan,” Rose said.

“He’s given me nothing but love and respect. There is no issue. There never will be an issue.”

“I’m playing a game a week at the minute so hopefully I will get there if I stay injury-free,” Rose said.

“Once I get through this Christmas period and into the New Year, I feel I’ll be 100 per cent.”

Mauricio Pochettino says Spurs will ‘take many lessons from this run’

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspurs slipped to four Premier League matches without a victory and has only made a 1-1 draw at Watford.

Defender Davinson Sanchez received a suspension after his red card for a forearm to Watford forward Richarlison’s face.

Pochettino remains positive that while they seat two points from a possible 12, they will emerge stronger.

“I don’t know what people say [about us], but of course when you don’t win and you play for or manage Spurs there’s always going to be criticism,” said Pochettino.

“But of course I accept that I try to learn after every game, but I think in the last two or three seasons Spurs have been very competitive.

“Yes, of course, we want to avoid bad moments and periods but we are not still this type of team like Barcelona, Real Madrid that can maybe keep winning and winning for long periods.

“We’re completely different, we’re not in the last stage [of our development].

“So we need to use these experiences to improve, to learn, to get more experience.

“When people criticise us, my staff and my team, that always makes you stronger, and sometimes that’s good.

“We have maybe three points less than this time last season, and we’ve finished top of our Champions League group.

“Manchester City have created a gap, but I’m sure the team will improve and take many lessons from this run.”

“I’m not going to complain, if Sanchez is out for a few games, that’s football,” said Pochettino.

“And it’s always about the squad anyway. We’ll just have to play someone else.

“Of course you always miss players who are unavailable, but I won’t complain.”

Mauricio Pochettino admits that there will be no quick fix when Erik Lamela returns

Erik Lamela

Mauricio Pochettino is waiting for Erik Lamela’s return but admits that Tottenham Hotspur would still have struggled against West Brom even without the Argentinian international.

Tottenham were able to beat Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday, but they struggle against West Brom and needed Harry Kane to help them salvage a point.

Although the Spurs controlled 72 per cent of the game, they failed to create clear-cut chances and suffered from a lack of pace.

They were even almost beaten by Solomon Rondon in the final seconds.

Tottenham failed to break down a team which lead them to question if they need Lamela to come back to give them the attacking spark they need.

Pochettino, on the other hand, does not want to place the blame on Lamela’s absence for their draw against West Brom but admitted that they are waiting for the Argentinian midfielder’s return.

“Lamela is still not in the condition to play,” Pochettino said.

“We are waiting for him, but it’s not Lamela today.

“With Lamela or without Lamela… when you drop points you always you the player that didn’t play.

“When you win against Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund – when it’s good – you never ask me about the players that don’t play, no?

“I understand but of course I want to have everyone fit and available to be selected. Lamela is now one year not playing.”

Mauricio Pochettino glad about the ‘fantastic achievement’ of Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham won their Champions League group against Borussia Dortmund last night.

Spurs won group H just one year after finishing third in a group with Monaco, CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen.

They beat Dortmund for the second time and Pochettino is happy about his squad’s performance this season.

“It’s fantastic for us, a fantastic achievement,” he said. “To be top of the table, and to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League is new for us.”

“The season before, we were watching the draw and we thought, ‘Oh Monaco, Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow’, and we thought we had a chance for the next stage,” Pochettino recalled with a smile.

“This draw we looked and thought, ‘OK we are going to compete’ and we said nothing. And look now, we are first, top of the table.”

“It was difficult because Real Madrid and Dortmund and APOEL are always difficult,” Pochettino said.

“But we try to enjoy and be competitive and try to win. That was the idea in every single game.”

Harry Kane speaks about Tottenham Hotspur beating Dortmund, finishing top of Group H

 Harry Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane always knew that they could still get back in the game after coming from behind Borussia Dortmund but was able to win 2-1 and finishing top of Group H in the Champions League.

Kane made his sixth goal in this season then Dele Alli helped Son Heung-Min to seal the victory.

“It’s a tough place to come and to come from behind and win, so it’s a fantastic night,” Kane said.

 Harry Kane

“It was a big goal. Being 1-0 down here it always was going to be tough, but we knew there was always going to be chances and if we could just take one then we’d be right in the game and we thought we could go on and win it.

“It was a good ball from Dele and I just got it out of my feet and through the defender’s legs and was delighted to see it go in. And what a finish by Sonny for the second goal. Fantastic.”

“It was important to bounce back after the defeat in the derby and now it’s important to refresh your mind and be ready because the next few games will be very important for us in the league and we need to make sure we get the points in the league.”
