Stoke City

Originally from Stoke-Trent, Staffordshire is another English professional football team named the Stoke City Football Club. In 1863, the club was founded as was named as Stoke Ramblers, however, in 1925 the club changed their name to Stoke City after the city status was granted to Stoke-on-Trent. Stoke City football club is the second oldest football club in the world next to Notts County. The club plays in the Premier League and is one of the founding members of the Football League.

Stoke City have not participated in any top-flight football for a long period of 23 years, however in 2008 after winning a promotion, Stoke City played in the Premier League. Their first trophy recorded in history was the 1972 Football League Cup final when Stoke defeated Chelsea by a score of 2-1. In the 1935-36 and 1946-47 seasons, the club achieved their highest league finish in the top division by placing 4th. Stoke also participated in the European Football in 1972-72 and 1974-74 seasons. In 2011, Stoke also competed in the FA Cup Final and finished as runner-up to Manchester City, they also reached the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Bet365 is Stoke City’s home grounds, with a 28-116 all-seater stadium capacity. However, in 1997 prior to the opening of the stadium, the club played at the Victoria Ground which was the club’s home ground in 1878. The club is nicknamed as “The Potters”, the name was based on the Stoke-on-Trent pottery industry.

Stoke City has the West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers as their rivals, whilst Port Vale is the club’s local rival.
