Tottenham Hotspur

Named before as Hotspur FC and founded in 1882 is the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The club is popularly called as the Spurs, it is an English football club based in Tottenham Haringey, London. In 1896, the Spurs played in the Southern League until 1908, the club was then promoted to the Football League Second Division. Prior to the promotion, the club won the FA Cup in 1901 which makes them the only non-league football club to win since the inception of the football league.

The club’s home ground is the White Hart Lane, today they play their home games at the newly developed Bulls Cross which is located at the northern boarders of London Borough of Enfield. The Spurs were also the first club to have won both the FA and League Cup in the 1960-61 season. In 1962, the Spurs also became the first British football club who have won in the UEFA club.

In the 1921 FA Cup, Spurs have featured a cockerel for their crest. The club’s name is taken from Harry Hotspur, Harry was riding spurs including his fighting cock that was fitted in the spurs which then became the club’s featured icon. However, as time pass by there were unauthorized use of the club’s image that is why in 1983, to avoid pirates and unauthorized users the club’s badge was changed and was added with two red lions and their club motto; “Audere est Facere” a latin passage that says “To Dare is to Do” . The club is a long-time rival with its nearby neighbours, the Arsenal, both teams compete and plays in the North London derby.
