Southampton Virgil van Dijk believes that Liverpool and Manchester City will go furthest in this season’s Champions League.
If Van Dijk has a choice, he would be playing at Liverpool or City at this time. However, the defender had to return at Southampton and is now being frozen out by first team manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
When asked which English side would go furthest this season Van Dijk said: “I think Liverpool and Man City maybe.
“You never know. It’s always going to be difficult and [it’s] a different style of play – European nights are always different.
“Anything can happen, especially if you are the big English clubs who are in the Champions League at the moment.”
Liverpool have won the European Cup four times already and can be considered as the most successful English team of the competition.
Manchester City have not won the Champions League but they have able to get into the semi-finals against Real Madrid in 2016 which is the furthest they have gone in the game.
While Liverpool and City really have a potential to win this season, Van Dijk may just be wanting some of the actions as he missed the opportunity to join any the of the two clubs. He will have an opportunity to transfer though, but he may need to wait for the next summer.
